America Saves Week for 2011 is February 20th through the 27th.  During this week, Americans are encouraged to put money into "safe FDIC insured accounts."  Just how safe are those accounts?  Well, for one thing, the list of troubled banks has risen to the highest level in 18 years.  The number of troubled banks is now 884 out of 7,657 federally insured institutions.  The FDIC is now insuring $5.4 trillion in assets, but has an insurance fund of negative $8 billion dollars.  While Americans save, who is going to save the FDIC?
