The Government Pension War (02/21/11)

45 States collectively will have a $125 billion shortfall next year.  As State Governments take on Pension Reform, some Government Workers are Fighting Back with protests, walkouts, and now commercial service announcements to win public sympathy in a drive to maintain their compensation packages.  In the private sector, Big Corporations have been cutting out pensions for years, lowering if not all out stopping 401k matching plans, laying off record numbers of people, and enforcing pay cuts on those that remain.  Here is an article about how 401k plans have fallen short - even for those once considered doing well - here is an average breakdown of 401k balances by age group.
